As a little girl, I always remember my Dad being so obsessed with New York City.
In fact, my parents have a huge map of midtown Manhattan framed in the living room.
I have fond memories of Dad giving me little lectures about how great the city was.
He would also quiz me on things like:
"How many boroughs does NYC have, & what are their names?"
Which, Dad, I still remember. There are five.
Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, & Staten Island.
Unfortunately for my Dad, I wasn't quite enthralled with New York as he was.
I remember many trips down there kind of scared me. I don't even know why.
I guess it was just overwhelming going from one extreme to another.
I mean, I grew up living in a place where it was normal to see 50 cows outside my window.
I didn't know what I was missing back then. I didn't start to appreciate New York until I hit college.
It was when I went to New York without my Dad that something just hit me.
All that he had taught me had really sunk in & I was able to show my friends around like a tour guide!
Everything about New York City now excites me.
My heart literally beats faster the second my feet touch the sidewalk outside Grand Central Terminal.
Maybe it's the sky scrapers,
maybe it's the smell of nuts & pretzels,
or fake leather bags.
Maybe it's the $5 DVD's
or the $20 "real" rolex's sold on the streets.
It also could be the flashing lights in Times Square,
or the inviting feeling of Central Park.
Maybe it's the taste of huge cannoli's in Little Italy,
or the fact that you could actually live in a pretty pink apartment building...
or zebra print, if that's more your style...
Maybe it's the fact that you can get a New Years Eve Party hat for pretty cheap
if you go to the city on New Years Day,
or the real Italian accents from the waiters at Buona Notte, one of Dad's favorite places to eat in the city.
Maybe it's because of the huge sparkling Christmas Tree,
or the Radio City Rockettes that I oh-so admire.
Or it could be that New York City is one of the only places that you can find
a man spray painted from head to toe in silver paint.
Maybe it's the fact that Scott proposed in Central Park,
Whatever it is...
I'm in love with all aspects of New York
& consider myself pretty blessed to live such a short distance away.
I think a NYC weekend getaway sounds good for our 1 year wedding anniversary...
don't you?
=)
He proposed in Central Park?? So beautiful :) I love NYC too! I am a HUGE Yankees fan and I actually have a friend who is a Rockette. The one thing I'm not too good at is navigating, so you are very lucky your dad taught you everything about the city!
